I enjoyed the ride and the breakfast so much (lunch? ok, brunch) on New Year's Day that I wanted to recreate it for Bubski, since he couldn't go that day and had to work. I noticed that when we came around Portugese Bend, around PV to 25th street, we passed Western Avenue. That gave me the idea that since Barry's really good friend from the post office lived off of Western and Toscanini in Rancho Palos Verdes, we could ride out there on Saturday and see him! Bub hadn't seen him for at least 4-5 years and had always talked about, "We gotta go see Steve sometime", so it was A PERFECT reason to ride out there!
Got those great cold-weather gloves on sale at Cycle Gear, thought it would be a good time to try those suckers out also before we really HAD to, so a basically wonderful day to see old friends while we were still around and ambulatory. Plus it was a nice way to show off our clean bikes (which of course never stay clean, but that's another story).
Went to Sam's club for a couple of things then went home to get the bikes ready. I hauled out those cold weather gloves I bought on new year's day and we used those. Jax went with us so we left around 10:20 AM and tooled on out the 57 to the 91 to the 710 to Broadway and parked for Roscoe's Chix and Waffles. Ride wasn't too cold, about 55 degrees, not bad, pretty comfy actually. Jackie didn't take gloves and had her 1/2 helmet on so her face was a little cold. Jax and Bub said that the food was awesome! (see 1/2 of Jackie's plate to the left-that is actually a WING on her plate and 3/4 of one of the two waffles.) You can see how big the plate is compared to her hand, and FYI-the round 'thing' on the back of her hand ISN'T a tattoo, but a round stamp from a place that she went to last night, to prove she was 21.
After brunch we went over the Vincent Thomas Bridge to check out what's going on with Port's O' Call village...sad that it's really kinda gone downhill. Did take some pics in front of the Ports Of Call Restaurant because the Yankee Whaler Restaurant is no longer there (it used to be towards the end of the village). We did the touristy-thing and did some pictures. Took a pic of Jax under the whaler's harpoon (don't start, it's not funny!) but am not posting it here since it just brings stuff too close to home re: what I'd LIKE to do to her when we don't get along! Since Bub's friend Steve lived close by, we be-bopped up 6th street, then left on Weymouth, then r on 7th up and around to Western Ave. From there just a couple of miles to Barry's friend's Steve's house in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Steve and Barry are about the same age, and the last time I saw he and his lovely wife Gail was about 5 years ago at his son's wedding. BOY I'll never forget THAT shindig-so many courses of the most exotic food such as birds' nest soup or was it shark's fin? Anyway, awesome awesome wedding. Hadn't seen Steve and since Steve and Barry were basically best friends, it made for a great, almost teary reunion of these two old farts (oopsie, I mean FRIENDS).
Saturday was also the first meeting of our motorcycle group, so after we dropped Laine off at the Long Beach airport (he was flying back to Provo after being down here for the holidays) we beat feet over to the group meetin' place and gave our paperwork and proof in. I said hello with smiles and smiles, happy new year's' were abounding, lots of folks there. Our pres asked me if I wanted to tailgun over and do the chase car thing behind the group, which was interesting, told him we'd think about it. (for only two seconds, though-I had this surprise ride for Bub planned out for today.) Had the reading of the charter too. Each officer was given a sheet and each read their sheet at the same time as the others, creating a cacaphony of quasi-legalese noise. Only one copy of the charter is available to eyeball and any of the members can read it if they want at any of the meetings on the first Saturday ride of the month. All members are responsible for the information in that charter. Officers included Stacy Limbaugh as Ladies of Star Rep-congrats, Stace, you nice person, you. You and Keith are such a good looking couple, I hate you both...
